.SYNOPSIS...Active pattern continues with rounds of wind, rain and
snow showers this week. Active potential for precipitation chances
will last from Monday through the Weekend with additional chances
for next week as well.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Sunday and Monday

Sunday is a day of transition as we will be in between systems,
as a stronger system will be primed to affect the Silver State for
Monday and Tuesday. For the most part Sunday looks to be quiet
for most Nevadans with partly to mostly cloudy skies, light winds,
and temperatures starting in the mid 20s to mid 30s Sunday
morning and afternoon highs in the upper 40s to mid 60s. However
there is a low chance for isolated showers mainly across the
higher terrain of central and northern Nevada. While probabilities
remain low in the 15% to 30% range a few lucky spots could see
light accumulations of snow or rain, but anything more that a
trace to a few hundredths of an inch is not expected. Cloud cover
will start to expand again for the overnight Sunday into Monday as
stronger upper level system makes its way into the region. Along
with the potential of more rain and snow, one of the main impacts
with this system will be the wind as a Wind Advisory has been
issued for strong winds will be possible with the accompanying
frontal passage from 8 AM PDT Monday morning through 1 AM PDT
Tuesday morning, as the front moves from the NW to the SE. Winds
will be initially out of the SW to W ahead of the front with
speeds of 25 MPH to 35 MPH with gusts up to 55 MPH possible. Winds
will shift to more of a west to west northwest direction after
the front passes but speeds will remain similar. Will need to
watch for areas of blowing dust in addition to the strong winds as
drops in visibility will lead to adverse driving conditions along
area roads. As for precipitation look for precipitation type to
start as rain for the valleys and passes ahead of the front. In
fact there looks like there will be some instability along the
front and there could be a few rumbles of thunder Monday afternoon
as well. Precipitation type will change over to snow behind the
front as cooler air filters in. Temperatures Monday will be cooler
across northern NV due to precipitation and the front, central NV
will see more sun for the afternoon as highs range from the low
40s to mid 60s. Amounts with this system will be good as valleys
will see up to 0.15 of water and a trace to 0.5 of snow. Passes
and summits will see 0.10 to 0.25 of water with 1 to 3 of
snow, and the mountain ranges will see mostly snow with 3 to 8
of new snowfall by Tuesday morning.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through next Sunday

Showers continue Tuesday as an elongated trough continues its
travels across Nevada. Precipitation will be mostly snow as high
temperatures are only expected to reach the low to mid 40s.
Additionally winds continue to be on the stronger side with gusts
of 30-35 mph expected across much of the forecast area. Showers
continue all the way through Wednesday afternoon when they mostly
pull back, with a few lingering near the Oregon/Idaho border.
Overall conditions on Wednesday will be similar to Tuesday,
although winds will be about 10 mph slower.

Showers return on Thursday as another round of energy reinforces
the trough. That said, while model agreement has improved
significantly compared to this time yesterday there is still
significant uncertainty in the forecast beyond this point and
things may change. What can be said at this time is that
conditions Thursday will be wet, with showers possible at some
point during the day over all but the southernmost portion of the
forecast area. Additionally, temperatures Thursday will be warmer
than Wednesday, a trend that looks to continue through the end of
the forecast period, although how much warmer is still to be
determined. Exactly when showers end fully is also still in flux,
but what seems consistent is that Saturday afternoon and Sunday
are expected to be dry at this time.

&&

.AVIATION...Few hours of VCSH expected at KELY this morning
between 13Z and 17Z, otherwise weather will be mostly dry across
the area this morning. Expecting VCSH at KWMC, KBAM, and KEKO this
afternoon with -SHRA at KELY with modest instability over the
area. KTPH remains dry. No significant effect on CIGS/VSBY
anticipated with VFR the prevailing condition, though showers on
terminal may cause brief reductions to CIGS/VSBY, producing short
lived MVFR conditions. Activity dissipates thru this evening,
though the next synoptic system begins to move into Nevada from
the northwest early Monday morning. Winds also increase this
afternoon, generally SW, gusting between 20KT and 28KT at all
terminals.
